Description

Join City Club of Boise for a special event with author Jenny Tinghui Zhang, author of Four Treasures of the Sky. The book, an international bestseller and New York Times Editor’s Choice, tells the story of a Chinese girl in the American West. It is set around the time of the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, and was informed by The Chinese Hanging Tree in Idaho, where five Chinese men were lynched by vigilantes after being accused of killing a white shopkeeper.

Zhang is sharing this story as a part of City Club's Hidden Histories series. This series shines a light on the histories of the nondominant narrative of Idaho's history - and this event is a fundraiser designed to support City Club's work to bring this kind of programming to life.

We are honored to stage this event at KIN's ART HAUS Cocktail Bar. KIN's chef and co-owner, Kris Komori, is a 2023 James Beard Award Winner - a first for any Idaho Chef. Chef Komori and his team have leveraged the award to support local nonprofits. During this event you will be treated to a creative small plates dinner featuring the ART HAUS Cocktail Bar menu and a no-host bar. This event is an opportunity for guests to show their support of underrepresented voices and the work to bring them to the forefront.

Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

$125; Attendance limited to 30. Proceeds benefit City Club of Boise.

Open to City Club members only until February 24, 2024. Members may register a guest as well.

Thank you to our Hidden Histories series sponsor, CapEd, our forum sponsor, Osher Center for Lifelong Learning, and to the Idaho State Historical Society for grant funding to support Ms. Zhang's visit to Idaho.
