Tour: Life’s Kitchen

"Life’s Kitchen was founded in 2003 by local restaurateur Rory Farrow.  Before opening Life's Kitchen Rory saw hundreds of Boise teenagers enter her restaurants as employees without the basic life skills necessary to become successful young adults. She found herself not only teaching them how to read a recipe and properly handle a knife but also helping them find their first apartment, learn how to manage a budget, and develop other important skills required for economic independence. After 25 years of informal mentoring, Rory founded Life’s Kitchen.

Life’s Kitchen was one of the first organizations supported by Catalyst Kitchens, a national network of food service job training programs. As a Model Member of the Catalyst Kitchens Network, Life’s Kitchen is a recognized leader in the field of foodservice social enterprise.

Since 2003, Life’s Kitchen has provided over 550,000 hours of job training to more than 755 young adults, while providing more than 2 million charitable meals to community members in need. In 2012, Life’s Kitchen was awarded the Albertsons Foundation ID21 award for innovation in education."
